This study focuses on the importance of protection and rational use of cultural heritage in protected areas of the Republic of Lithuania. It aims to present a summarized overview of the condition of the Lithuanian cultural heritage in the protected areas of the Republic of Lithuania and the potential for related developments in this area for the future. Indigenous people and other local communities have a vital role in environmental and cultural development and management because of their influence on hereof. Therefore protection of natural and cultural heritage is one of preconditions of human wellbeing. This study shows that natural and cultural heritage is integral and must be protected jointly. It is been concluded, as the main issues, that there is a need for establishing of complex protected areas with the aim to protect natural and cultural heritage as well. In this work comparative, documentary, historical analysis and generalization methods are been applied.
