The Resolution of the Council of Lithuania of 16 February 1918, also called Lithuania’s Act of Independence (hereinafter referred to as the Act of Independence or the Act of 16 February), is considered the most important act of the State of Lithuania, restored in the first half of the 20th century, and has become the basis and programme for Lithuanian constitutionalism. This act declared the resolve of the Lithuanian nation to restore its own independent statė and announced to the world that all statė ties imposed on Lithuania by force by other countries were terminated. The Act of Independence basically Consolidated the existence of the modern State of Lithuania.
