Research results are presented in conclusions. To compare the development of rural tourism in Eastern Aukštaitija region, Lithuania and in Latgale region, Latvia, it can be concluded that situation in both regions is similar with small exceptions. The main strengths of rural tourism homesteads in Lithuania and Latvia regions are the homestead location (the lake, forest and a great presence in the landscape) and existent infrastructure. The main weaknesses of rural tourism homesteads in both regions are the homestead insufficient preparation to accept persons with disabilities and the imperfection of the existing infrastructure.
