Sveiko konteksto paradoksas – kaip mažesnės klasės patyčių normos gali pabloginti situaciją likusioms aukomsItem type:Publication, [Healthy context paradox – how lower classroom bullying norms may exacerbate negative outcomes for the remaining victims.]conference poster[2024][T1e][S006][2]; ; Psichologijos idėjų uostas : Lietuvos psichologų kongresas, Klaipėda 2024., p. 64-65.32 Extending the healthy context paradox to nonintervention settings: Escalating problem behaviors among victimized social outliersItem type:Publication, research article[2024][S1][S006][4]; ; School psychology., 2024, p. 1-4It can be risky to be different. The healthy context paradox notes that a reduction in classroom bullying exacerbates problems for those who remain victimized (Huitsing et al., 2019). The present study extends this work by examining the costs associated with being a victimized social outlier [known also as a "social misfit" (Wright et al., 1986)] in (nonintervention) regular classroom settings, to determine whether students who are outliers in terms of classroom victimization respond with increasing adjustment problems. Participants were 706 public primary and middle school students (ages 9-14 years, Mage = 11.80, SDage = 1.13) in the United States (80 girls, 85 boys) and Lithuania (259 girls, 282 boys). Peer nominations of physical victimization and disruptiveness along with self-reports of physical victimization, conduct problems, and delinquent behavior were collected twice during an academic year (4 months apart). Longitudinal group actor-partner interdependence model analyses indicated that increases in adjustment problems over the course of the school year were a product of the degree to which a child was a victimized social outlier. Specifically, the discrepancy between individual victimization and classroom victimization norms at the beginning of the school year predicted increases in disruptiveness (d = -0.11), delinquent behavior (d = -0.10), and conduct problems (d = -0.08) from the beginning to the end of the school year. The results are consistent with the assertion that the risks of being a social outlier extend to those who stand apart in terms of their victimization experiences. Lausanne : Frontiers Media S.A., 2023, vol. 14., p. 1-10Loneliness is detrimental to well-being, particularly during the transition into and early years of adolescence when peer relations are ascendant. Shy and emotionally sensitive youth, who often spend considerable time alone, have known vulnerabilities to loneliness. Studies of young children suggest that a supportive classroom context may mitigate adjustment risks, reducing victimization and improving a sense of belonging. Herein we extend this work to older students, testing the hypothesis that a positive classroom climate protects temperamentally vulnerable children (i.e., those who are shy, emotionally reactive, or sensitive to rejection) from escalating levels of loneliness across the course of a school year. A community sample of 540 (277 boys, 263 girls) Lithuanian students in grades 5–7 (10–14 years old) completed identical surveys twice, 4–5 months apart. Self- reports assessed shyness, emotional reactivity, and rejection sensitivity, as well as perceived positive classroom climate and loneliness. Path analyses indicated that longitudinal associations from shyness, emotional reactivity, and rejection sensitivity to increased loneliness were mitigated by positive classroom climate. In each case, temperamental vulnerability anticipated greater loneliness for youth reporting low but not high positive classroom climate. The results held after accounting for several potential confounding variables. The findings have practical implications, suggesting that scholars and practitioners redouble efforts to improve classroom support, particularly for temperamentally vulnerable children who are at elevated risk for solitude, loneliness, and attendant mental health challenges.

; Socialinės gerovės tyrimai = Social inquiry into well-being. Vilnius : Mykolo Romerio universitetas, 2022, vol. 20, no. 2., p. 5-28Implementing outdoor adventure education (OAE) programs with school pupils brings unique challenges and outcomes. However, no previous review on OAE programs has focused on the classroom cohort. We systematically reviewed quantitative research of OAE programs in schools regarding outcomes, program types, and methodology. Data were collected from 7 databases using a syntax representing concepts of OAE and schools. Out of the 3,535 articles found, 8 were selected. These results reveal methodological limitations such as no control group, vague program description, and questionable time of measurements. The reviewed research measured 16 different outcomes and revealed ambiguous results. OAE shows the potential to improve cohesion in student groups and students’ self-efficacy; however, more rigorous research with classes that remain intact after the program ends is needed. Overall, OAE programs may benefit various aspects of a pupil’s life, but it is crucial to have a clear direction of where the program leads.
