Honour killings are defined as the most serious subcategory of honour crimes resulting in killing the victim for cleansing family honour. The data of such killings are not collected systematically and thus, the extent of the problem is underestimated in the society. The objective of the article is to approach to honour killings from the perspectives of the criminal etiology and to have a deeper insight into the issue by giving an account of a general attitude towards the problem with the purpose of prevention. The description of honour crimes is supported by the analysis of a survey, where the respondents from various countries, religions and social backgrounds express their opinion about the crime. Even though the survey is not representative enough, it illustrates that the phenomenon of an honour killing is perceived differently. The religion factor is present though it is not the key one. The study also reveals that such factors as education and integration of closed communities are the determining ones and may play the key role in prevention of such crimes.

Every country is involved in professional education and training in ways which benefit society on no matter which economic and technological development stage it is. All professions are important for the social welfare, however public security professionals are those that take care of the security o f the society as a whole and every individual member - be there men, women, those who are rich, poor or persons with disabilities. Thus, public security education issues are important to everyone to some extent. Nowadays crime investigation is a highly complex process. Hence, public security professionals need to obtain skills and knowledge in a number o f disciplines such as material and process law, forensic science and or even finance, knowledge o f which is applied in economic crime investigation. Over years the Faculty o f Public Security, previously the Faculty o f Law, at Mykolas Romeris University has been seeking to offer a degree course where students obtain a broad legal thinking and skills that are necessary in revealing and investigating illegal activities o f all kinds. The very idea o f a BA programme in Law and Pretrial Process was first embodied by the order o f the Senate (No lSN-38) on April 4, 2012. The programme aims to prepare proffesionals of pretrial investigation who have required expertise in their field and meet social needs. Since then the programme o f Law and Pretrial Process has been always in top ten degree programmes among students. The students o f the programme seem to share certain motives to be public security workers. The reseach is the first attempt to reveal these motives and factors which make the professional career in the field of public security attractive. The paper aims to provide a comprehensive picture of students attitude towards their future job and career perspectives as well as some insight into the factors which may effect public security policy.
