Keliuose daugėjant automobilių ir kitų transporto priemonių, o kelių tinklui beveik nesiplečiant, didėja eismo intensyvumas, auga eismo nelaimių, juose žuvusiųjų ir sužeistųjų skaičius. Europos Komisijos duomenimis Lietuvos vairuotojai vairuoja pavojingiausiai Europoje. Didėjantis avaringumas, žūstančiųjų skaičius pasiekė tokią ribą, kurios nebegalima toleruoti. Saugaus kelių eismo problemą galima išspręsti tik tuomet, kai ji sprendžiama visais valstybės lygmenimis bei taikant įvairias teisines, administracines, inžinerines, švietėjiškas priemones.
A growing number of cars in Lithuania have caused an increase in road accidents. The number of cars and other means of transportation and the intensity of road traffic are increasing, but the road network is not being expanded. All this explains the growth in the number of traffic accidents as well as deaths and casualties on the roads. Data collected by the European Commission indicate that Lithuanian drivers are the most dangerous in Europe. Road accidents and deaths have reached a point where they can no longer be tolerated. The problem of road safety can be solved if the parliament, the government, municipal authorities and all traffic participants take an active part in the educational process.
