Not so long ago the most popular mechanism of energy companies regulation was Cost plus model but over the time regulators and economists started to criticize that model was not efficient enough for both regulated companies and consumers. Therefore incentive regulation was invente d which nowadays is applied among majority of EU countries, nevertheless there are different alternatives to be applied which depends on regulation needs and goals in every case. The aim of this article is to define what the real importance of incentive re gulation is and to determine mainpros and cons of different variations of incentive regulation models.
