In the article, Guide for the Perplexed, the theological and philosophical treatise by Moses Maimonides, the famous medieval thinker, scientist, physician, judge and rabbi, is considered. Etienne Gilson calls this treatise the Summa of Jewish Scholastic Philosophy, the author of which makes attempts to combine Jewish theology with Aristotelian philosophy. Maimonides regards the philosophy of Aristotle as an excellent expression of the power of the human intellect, surpassed by the Prophetic Writ alone; for prophesies are divine emanations. Conjoining Aristotelian, Neo-Platonist, and Arabic ideas in one theology, Maimonides suggested the direction for the development of medieval European philosophy and theology. Christian philosophers and theologians used his works as ideological sources.
