This article aims to reveal the characteristics of physical and combat training applied for future statutory officers and to examine different aspects of the training process control. One of the functions assigned to the position of a police officer is to be in good physical condition. In their work, police officers face different situations which include a possibility of using physical force and combat self-defense. The regulations of the system of physical and combat training for police officers are relatively new. The current situation puts forward a question whether institutions offering police professional training use a similar model for the assessment of candidates for admission, and whether introduced changes in the legislation are coinsidered in the training and assessment of the physical and combat training of students and cadets. The article analyzes the requirements that educational institutions apply to candidates who wish to become police officers. The study also compares how these requirements change during the training process and after a person is employed as a police officer. In each case, the legal framework is examined that is applicable to the physical and combat training process. The analysis of the characteristics of the physical and combat training of future police officers and the legal regulation of the physical training and additional requirements for police officers showed that not all police professional training institutions strictly follow the latest legal acts applicable to current police officers. The requirements for the assessment and control of general physical fitness slightly differ for both candidates to specific training institutions and those who study in these institutions. The differences that have been identified in the study do not have any negative influence on the process of physical fitness training, on the contrary, they enable to better display individual abilities. The results of the study showed that both areas of physical training and combat training are legally well regulated.

The article reviews indices of maintaining body posture stability of the students, future statutory officers. The research was performed when the students under research were standing on a computerized balancing platform „Libra“. The research was participated by 62 students (28 men and 34 women) already studying a discipline of martial self-defence. There were performed 3 tests: when standing on the platform with eyes open, with eyes closed and aiming at a target – simulating a shooting. Such tests were selected purposefully: statutory officers – police officers and border guards – have to use physical abuse or even a service weapon when performing their direct functions. In order to perform such actions correctly and resultatively, one of the conditions necessary is adequate coordination peculiarities, ability to maintain body posture stability in specific situations. During the research, the indices were recorded that characterize peculiarities of maintaining students‘ body posture stability – an area of deflection from the model line, deflection time, stability index. There were recorded particular tendencies of maintaining body posture stability, however, substantial difference of indices between male and female results we not identified.

The article reviews the peculiarities of dynamics of testing indicators reflecting the initial physical preparation of future statutory officials. The results of the physical skills testing of students who started their studies of Combat Self-Defense and Combat Wrestling studies in 2014-2018 are analyzed. The article uses the results of randomly selected students' control exercises. They characterize students' speed endurance (100 m running); peculiarities of general aerobic capacity (2000m and 3000 m running), explosive strength (the standing long jump), abdominal press and arm muscle strength changes in retrospective. Based on the initial data on students' physical fitness testing, the tendencies of changes are defined. The statistically significant differences in the physical characteristics of the groups of students tested in different years are determined.

Law enforcement officials need not only good practical skills of legal knowledge, but good health, adequate psychological and physical fitness as well. Regardless of the nature of the activity, officials often suffer from stressful situations that adversely affect their health. A sufficiently problematic circumstance that negatively affects the status of statutory officers is cardiovascular disease. It is likely that special knowledge, proper physical fitness, and a system for monitoring and controlling the status of officers could positively influence the personal commitment of statutory officers to maintain a good level of physical health. The article reviews the results of the questionnaire survey for the students of Mykolas Romeris University, Public Security Faculty and future statutory officials. The aim of the survey was to reveal how students evaluate their health, whether they control the state of their health with the help of elementary functional indicators, and what measures they will use to improve their physical health and general well-being. The questionnaire approbated in 1999 was used to conduct the survey.

The article treats the interaction of subjects of studies’ programme, its impact on the average of subject groups of study course and study results of the whole semester. In 2005 the ministers responsible for higher education who took part in the meeting in Bergen especially put stress on the significance of one function of higher education studies such as the importance of preparation of a proper specialist for the labour market. One of the major conditions of this function implementation is the balanced and properly prepared studies’ programme. The academic law of the Republic of Lithuania regulates the extent of studies’ programmes which are prepared and kept in our country and it is supplemented by the schedule of the first level of provided degree and general requirements of integral studies’ programmes. The more detailed instructions for the scheme of studies’ programme are introduced in the regulations of particular study courses. The training group of studies’ programme presents the final version of a programme. Our analysed studies’ programmes are structured according to the provided order but the training process affects the fundamental aspects of police power specialists’ training. The major programme part is amounted to the subjects of studies’ course, the less part is structured by the subjects of special course studies and the least part is amounted to the subjects of general academic studies. Students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also its practice skills which are well-established enough. The article treats the studies’ results of students of Mykolas Romeris University such as exam evaluation differences and similarities, statistical interrelationships and potential aspects of their impact on studies’ quality. The students of MRU achieved the best rates of common stamina of running in the 3000 metres in the first research ( = 13:12 min). The rates between testing of sudden foot force of MRU individuals were surely statistically on the decrease (p<0,01) and during the first testing the average of their achieved results amounted to 264,95 cm. The average value of the rates of hand power endurance numbered 14 pull-ups by examining the groups of students from the university. The rates between testing of stomach muscle endurance of all team boys increased and the students of VGTU achieved the highest results ( = 29,77 times/30 s). According to the test of the speed of upper limbs, the future officers of MRU achieved the best result ( = 9,96 s) during the second research and it was evaluated as “very good“. The rates of tests (“hand static force“, “hand relative force“, “balance“ and “sudden foot force“) of future statutory officers who had participated in the research were considerably higher than the average results of Lithuanian students who had been examined before.
